About Rabbi Lyle S. Rothman
I am a proud Long Islander from East Meadow, New York and joined the University of Miami ‘Canes family in 2016, first as the Campus Rabbi and Jewish Chaplain and currently as the Chief Experience Officer for University of Miami Hillel. For three years, I served as the Chair of the University Chaplains Association, a group of clergy trained to provide spiritual guidance and support to the greater UM community.
I was ordained and received an M.A. in Religious Education from Hebrew Union College-JIR in May 2012. For almost two decades, I have worked in Jewish education and for many of those years I have worked in Hillel serving as a pluralistic rabbinic educator in campus contexts. During rabbinical school, I served as a rabbinic intern at Columbia/Barnard Hillel and most recently as the Director of Jewish Life and Learning at Hofstra University Hillel. Before my ordination, I attended Hofstra University where I received a B.A. in Jewish Studies with a double minor in Philosophy and Religious Studies.
I am passionately dedicated to multifaith work and am part of a group of clergy who traveled to Abu Dhabi, UAE and Rabat, Morocco as part of the American Peace Caravan and Multi-faith Neighbors Network initiative. I currently reside in Miami with my dog Mia. In my spare time I love to watch British comedy, reclaim, and cook old family recipes, and take pride in my knowledge of local news and weather personalities.
